Welcome to Mainstream Data's new website! As I considered what I might write to inaugurate our new web site, I came to (what was for me, anyway) a startling realization: we are now older as a company than many of the people who work here. You might wonder why this came as such a revelation to me or even why it bears mention, since many companies clearly fall into the same category. Delicately put, company longevity isn't exactly the hallmark of companies in this industry; we have seen a lot of competitors come and go, always to the consternation of their abandoned customers who had to find new vendors and solutions, often on little notice. In fact, quite a few of our customers came to us seeking our stability after a challenging prior vendor relationship.
Mainstream has now been providing reliable, robust, competitively priced, and custom digital content delivery solutions for information companies for twenty-five years. We will be around for another twenty-five years, too, although I suspect (and hope) that someone else will be writing our blog! I'll agree to do the editing, though...
Speaking of longevity, if you know Mainstream, you probably know that we connect information creators with those who consume digital content-precisely the same thing that we created the company to do on March 15, 1985. A lot has changed since then, when a 300 bits-per-second text feed was considered ‘high speed' and there wasn't even a hint of an internet. There wasn't even email, really. Our first customer, Telerate Systems, needed a low-cost technology to wirelessly deliver U.S. Treasury Bond pricing information to its customers in New York City, so we invented a solution that worked wonderfully for them-for almost two decades.
Telerate isn't around anymore (it was acquired by Dow Jones & Company, subsequently acquired by Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation), but Mainstream's tradition-and commitment-to provide robust, low-cost, and long-lived solutions still drives us every day.
Please visit our web site regularly; we are committed to providing you with as much visibility into our thoughts, our progress, and our new products and services as we possibly can. And we'll let you know why we believe that you should judge us by the companies we keep-as customers. Our blog will give you some sense for why information industry leaders like Bloomberg, Technicolor, Reuters, PR Newswire, European PressPhoto Agency, The Guardian, Lusa (Portugal), ANP (Netherlands), Agencia EFE (Spain), Splash News, and many others trust their businesses to us.
